Johnell M. Colbert is a retired Systems Accountant from the U.S. Dept of Agriculture, National Finance Center, located on Old Gentilly Rd. in New Orleans East. She received her education from Joseph S. Clark High School, Dillard, and Loyola Universities. She began her career in real estate with Gertrude Gardner in 1995. In her first year she was Rookie of the Year and was the Top Producer of the New Orleans East branch until she left the company in 2004. As advised by her son, an attorney, she studied and became a licensed Broker, organizing Grateful Realty in 2004. The slogan "Grateful You Chose Us" was selected to demonstrate the goal of the agency: "Provide the best service to all clients and satisfy their needs for home ownership or investment opportunities." She purchased a building at 5437 Crowder Blvd. in 2005. The office was very successful. On August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina destroyed the first floor of the building with 9.5 ft of water. Mrs. Colbert was determined to reopen and encouraged other businesses and residents to return to the New Orleans East area. The office reopened on August 18, 2006, and continued to be recognized for its real estate and community services. On November 19, 2007, the former Mayor of New Orleans, Ray Nagin, presented a plaque to Grateful Realty for outstanding service and commitment to the recovery and rebuilding of New Orleans and to its economic rebirth. Mrs. Colbert continues to work untiringly in the community. She is a Housing and Foreclosure Counselor, is active in several community organizations, and is the voluntary Housing Director of the Jerusalem Economic Development Corporation (JEDC) Housing Division, which also serves as the Orleans Parish case management office for the Hope Center's Supportive Services for Veteran Families, SSVF. She serves on the Affordable Housing Committee of the New Orleans Municipal Assoc of Realtors and has been active in the Louisiana Housing Alliance, Greater New Orleans Housing Alliance, LA COR, and Unity organizations. She is a member of the Chamber of Commerce, is a Sunday School teacher, and a choir member at her church. She has been married for 35 years to Mr. Colbert, has five children, and 15 grandchildren. She attributes all her success to her faith and love of God, her love of people, and the city of New Orleans. On January 31, 2018, she and her agents decided to partner with Revolution Realty, whose talented Broker/Owner, Effie Chaisson, has the same heart and love of people that Mrs. Colbert has. She is now an Associate Broker and she and her agents will continue to soar to greater heights in real estate with Revolution Realty.
